Crowds at Annual Lantern Walk
More than 150 people turned out for our Lantern Walk at Queenswood near Leominster on Saturday 21 December. Families, children, people on their own, couples and friends, all walked together to remember their loved ones who have died. When we gathered at 4.30pm the skies were cloudy but it was dry to start with. By the end we were all soaked as the heavens opened. After safety instructions from Queenswood Ranger, Trevor, the Chair of Phoenix Bereavement, Linda Jones gave a few words of welcome. 'Look backwards and forwards along this line of lanterns' she said, 'and you will know that you are not alone. Together we are stronger.' The long line of people carrying lanterns wound through the dark woods to the Look-out Point where a minute's silence was held, and a few tears were shed. After that, some hugs of comfort amongst friends and family and we walked slowly back. A great surprise awaited the children at the end, as Santa met them and handed out some special Santa chocolates!
