Bereavement Leave important
Today a report was published showing that 8 out of 10 people support the idea of bereavement leave for workers who have experienced the death of someone close. We think it's a good idea, because above all, people who are bereaved need time and the right support. Going straight back to work can feel extremely difficult. It's good to know that many employers already support their workers at such a time, but parents of children that we work with tell us that in the first 3 months it seems as though there is a lot of help, and then friends seem to drift away. We say, give people time off at the time of the death and then be flexible, give more time a bit later on. Above all, don't expect people to 'get over it' or just 'get on with it.' Grief needs time. People need time. Hear our Chair, Linda Jones, interview on BBC Hereford Worcester here: http:www.bbc.co.ukprogrammesp001hjzx She is on one hour and 9 minutes in. Thanks for listening.
